You talk a lot about people energy. What do you mean?

The energy created by individuals and teams in your organization is “people energy”. People energy comes from the environment, the collective and individual behaviour of people, and individual self-awareness. When people energy is missing, a team and/or its leaders can feel drained, tired, and agitated. But if such people energy is effectively identified and managed, that same team is excited, motivated, valued and engaged.

What is one of the most important characteristics of an effective leader or a high-performing executive team?

Effective leaders and executive teams know how to identify people energy in their organization, how to ignite it and manage it. Effective leaders also have a high level of self-awareness. Through insights such as those offered through The Birkman Method, they’ve learned how to access their own mental energy in order to create a culture which fuels the people around them to do better, and produce greater results.

Why are so many people energy deficient?

Our society and our organizations have taught disciplines and coping skills – these are valuable but they use energy. Individuals need to learn where their personal psychological energy comes from, and make better choices to GET their personal fuel. This enables them to be more resilient, reduce stress responses and work consistently from their strengths.
